The complexity and diversity of the concept of economic growth is determined by the ambiguity of interpretation of its essence, content, qualitative and quantitative indicators, types and models. This determines the existence of many different approaches to the definition of economic growth . In modern economic science, approaches to determining the essence of economic growth can be classified according to the following criteria: 1. The stage of development of economic science; 2. Subject of research; 3. Correlation between economic growth and other related concepts. Depending on the current scientific paradigm, there were different ideas and concepts within the retrospective approach to the definition of economic growth. The key theories of economic growth can be called the concepts of Keynesian and neoclassical schools. These schools studied economic growth in terms of the following factors: - potential economic growth; - the interdependence of macroeconomic categories that provide sustainable economic growth; - nature of achieving sustainable growth.
